Ruth
Karp enjoys painting from life, which allows her transparent watercolors
to be spontaneous and creative. Her artwork depicts varying images,
including flowers, models, or even a scene she has witnessed while
traveling. Ruth also utilizes acrylic paints, both on paper and canvas.
Fellow artists call her work “painterly,” due to the “loose
and juicy” way in which she applies her colors.
Not only has
Ruth won “Best in Show” from The American Artists Professional
League, The Miami Watercolor Society, and The Florida Professional
Artists Guild, but she is also the recipient of over one hundred other
awards from groups such as The Florida Watercolor Society, Goldcoast
Watercolor Society, and The Miami Art League. |

| South
Florida is home to Ruth, her husband and their German Shepherd Amber.
Their daughter, son, daughter-in-law and four grandsons live nearby.
She has also found time away from her art to be involved in her community
as a member of the Bal Harbour Civic Association, the Miami Beach
Beautification Board, and the Miami Beach Recreation Department Committee.
She was a staff member of the Miami Beach Recreation Department where
she coached girls in sports, and also taught a Pre-K program. Ruth
was a Brownie Leader, Den mother for Cub-Scouts, President of the
University of Miami Hurricane Club (the first woman to ever hold that
position), University of Miami Hall of Fame member and a President
of the P.T.A. On the college level, she became president of Phi-Lambda-Pi,
a female Fraternity. Ruth enjoys wearing many hats, which she feels
contributes to the way she sees the world around her and influences
the way she creates her paintings. |
